The Life PracticeSM
Medical Advisor, John W. Starr, MD is an interventional cardiologist
in Roanoke, Virginia. His practice focuses on people who have
advanced heart disease; a life’s work that demonstrates
in real terms the importance of preventive medicine and the
importance of living a healthy lifestyle. John’s life
is dedicated to health. He works daily to improve the health
of others and, on a daily basis, practices the habits that
improve his own health, well being and performance. He "walks
the talk."
John graduated from Duke University School of Medicine and
is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular
Diseases. In addition to his medical practice in Roanoke,
Virginia, John is a member of the American College of Cardiology
and a fellow of the Council of Clinical Cardiology of the
American Heart Association. John is committed to clinical
outreach and is currently involved in planning a medical mission
to the Dominican Republic.
John’s commitment to health is witnessed by the way
he lives his own life. Aside from the daily rigors of a career
in medicine, John manages to blend a lot of physical activity
(golf, tennis, hiking, biking) with an active family life
(three children and two grandchildren).
From a Life PracticeSM
perspective, John knows through his own experience the importance
of regular exercise, healthy eating habits and sound lifestyle
habits. In spite of an acute awareness of the health risks
associated with poor health habits, John used to weigh 190 pounds,
had a 38 inch waist and had difficulty climbing 2 flights
of stairs. Today, with the help of Life PracticeSM, John weighs
167, his waist is a 33 and he is in excellent health and physical
condition. The key – sticking to the basics: regular
exercise and smart eating habits. Eight hours of sleep remains
a challenge, but the essential elements of Life PracticeSM
provide the foundation for his healthy daily routine.
John would be the first to tell you that he believes in the
adage “all things in moderation”. Lobster or steak and wine with dinner all are
occasionally part of John's diet. He would also confirm that a balanced approach
to eating that allow an occasional treat is far better than
bouncing from one fad diet to the next.
John Starr’s role with Life PracticeSM
is essential to the success of the program. His oversight
and review of Life PracticeSM provides
an advisory role
that guides content and program development. Central to Life PracticeSM
is our belief that Internet based health and fitness programs
should be used in conjunction with you consulting with your personal
physician, not as a replacement to your relationship with your doctor. John’s role as Medical
Advisor to Life PracticeSM
reinforces the importance of working with your own personal physician
to successfully and safely address the issues of health, fitness
and weight management.
